Frankie Rider owns this rare Knotchback GTA. Frankie writes:

"Our black GTA Notchback was built during the second week of January, 1988 at the plant in Van Nuys and was shipped out on April 14 to the selling GM dealership, David McDavid Pontiac in Irving, TX. I have not been able to locate the the build sheet for this car either, but I do have all the paperwork on it that shows the invoice, pricing, and shipping dates. The retail sticker price of the car was $20,488, including options, destination charges, and other dealer charges.
Mechanically, the car is still in its OEM stock, 225-hp configuration; being that my wife drives it most of the time, it's likely that it will remain that way for some time. In time I hope to add some things, like the strut tower brace, and maybe some of the same TPI system work that my red GTA has undergone. But for now it's all right just like it sits..... I'll trade a little bit of performance for the rare privilege of owning an authentic Notchback GTA.
Our Notchback GTA is one of the 624 Notchback GTAs built in 1988 (6.5% of production); in addition, 2,717 GTAs were equipped with the Medium Dark Gray custom cloth interior (27% of production), like this car has. A total of 8,956 GTAs left Van Nuys with the big-gun 5.7L TPI V8; this represents some 88% of the total GTA production in 1988."

"This is my 1988 Firebird Trans Am GTA. It is still all stock from 1988 except for the newer wing on the back. It has the optional digital dash, light gray interior, and the factory stereo w/controls on the steering wheel. It also happens to have a 350ci. tuned port injection under the hood (will pass a car in a heartbeat). Everything works on this car and it has had been taken care of exceptionally. The interior is perfect, and the exterior is not bad either. I hope to have it fully restored one day. The license plate will say CHADSGTA when it comes in a week or so."

Hope to do a website about it soon...

Hope Everyone Likes Her,
Chad

"I've always loved the Camaro and Firebird ever since I was a little kid.  I started searching for one in November of 2001, and found one in Cleveland for $2500 in December.  The car was in decent shape, but it was all original and needed some help.  The body only had 1 spot of rust, but there were many dings and dents all over it.  The interior had a headliner that was sagging, sun visors that had holes, a consol that was splitting apart (typical, I later found out!), and a rear seat that had sun damage.  With working on a farm and being 17 yrs old at the time, I saved money to get the car repainted.  Throughout the summer, I replaced most of the interior and installed a Pioneer sound system.  I took it to some car shows were I got a nice response from alot of people.  My father and brother are also Firebird fans.  My dad has a black '99; my brother has an '87 Formula 350, 5 speed with the performance cam.  Both are in excellent shape. Last January, I bought an '85 Trans Am with 40k original miles, 305/auto  that needs some work, but is mostly in excellent shape.  I'll post the other Firebirds in the Spring when we get them out of winter storage."

"Here’s my 1988 Trans Am! I got the car in January of 1998 with 90k on it, and it’s running strong in January of 2003 with 155k on the odometer. It’s got the 305 TBI power plant w/ a 700R4 tranny. The car is stock except for the Flowmaster /w 3.5” tips and $2500 in stereo equipment. I run 225/60/15 Dunlop 5000 tires which work excellently. The TA also received a fresh paintjob in June of 2002, and I also steam cleaned the engine bay. It’s my first Trans Am, and I can’t wait till I’m out of college so I can get a more powerful one!"

Enjoy!

"This is my 1988 GTA, I purchased it from the original owner with only 49,000 miles on the clock. It's in close to mint shape for an 88'.It's options include the L-98,digital dash and gray leather interior. I've added a Flowmaster exhaust, Fastchips prom, Eibach Sportlines, KYB GR-2 shocks and struts and as you can see Centerline wheels with BFG G-Force tires. Lots more chassis and motor\tranny stuff to come! Great site, keep up the good work!"

GTA production in 88 totaled 11,214 and they would become the top Firebird model in the line-up. This new status meant all GTAs would receive the 5.7L V-8, automatic transmission, 16x8 in gold lace wheels, and WS6 suspension. These cars would also come loaded with almost every option available: A/C, rear defogger, power windows, power door locks, cruise control, tilt wheel, steering wheel radio controls, AM/FM cassette stereo with graphic equalizer, Pass Key antitheft system, articulated seats, 45-45 split folding rear seat, rear deck power pull down, and either cloth or leather seats.

88gta16.jpg (56375 bytes) This pic of an eye catching GTA was sent to me by Tony Cannizzaro. It was his before he sold it to someone in Long Island. According to Tony it had every option but leather seats and T-Tops. The ones on it are aftermarket tops. The camel interior, gold rims, and gold custom graphics on the side all compliment the factory black paint. It also came with the desirable 5.7L. Tony's favorite TAs are the 78's and 79's painted black with a camel interior.
